The K6-3 offered a major performance jump over the K6-2.
The main marketing problem with the K6-III is that it wouldn't even scale as well as the K6-2 and on a MHZ basis couldn't justify a price premium sufficient to counter it's higher die cost. MHz sells-(TM-McMannis)...right now, AMD has to market a K6-III maxing out at 450 MHZ for more than a K6-2-533. It doesn't work...even though, in reality, the K6-III-450 smokes the K6-2-533.
