An excellent point about PC being essentially throw-aways with a new OS on each replacement. If a new OS becomes available and the consumer's hardware hasn't made the complete journey to obsolescence, an upgrade may make sense. I'm sure today's PC purchaser will give Win2000 a serious look when it's available.

Many others will choose to abandon their old PCs and get a new system, both hardware and software. Either way, Microsoft gets the business.

Cheers, PW.
