Wednesday December 1, 10:46 pm Eastern Time (Note: this article is ``in progress'; there will likely be an update soon.) HK's Hutchison hits new high on NTT, breaks HK$100 HONG KONG, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Hutchison Whampoa Ltd became Hong Kong's second HK$100 stock on Thursday, pushing through to a record as investors cheered its latest offshore telecom alliance. At about 1045 local time (0245 GMT), Hutchison was up HK$2.50 or 2.55 percent at HK$100.50 on turnover worth HK$299.88 million. At the same time, the benchmark Hang Seng Index (^HSI - news) was up 135.77 points or 0.88 percent at 15,558.29. HSBC (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: HSBA.L) is the only other stock to be valued at more than HK$100 in the territory. ``It's definitely a landmark,' said Salomon Smith Barney analyst Anil Daswani. On Wednesday, Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT - news) comfirmed that NTT Docomo would take a stake in Hutchison's mobile phone unit, diluting Motorola's 30 percent stake in the enterprise. The NTT deal followed the lucrative sale of a strategic stake in Orange PLC (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: ORA.L) in October to Mannesmann AG , in which Hutchison is now a 10.2 percent shareholder. ``I think that the only thing that analysts are going to be doing on the back of some of these transactions is revising their target prices upward,' Daswani said. The deal with NTT Docomo brought significant new mobile phone technology to Hutchison and made a possible spinoff of Hutchison Telecom viable, said Daswani. He said a rumoured restructuring of its port operations would add even more value to Hutchison. ``There is more good news to come,' Daswani said, adding that his target price of HK$102.00 was under review. Core Pacific-Yamaichi International (HK) Ltd analyst Arthur Law said he recently issued a report with a HK$120 target price for Hutchison in 2000. Law said the deal with NTT Docomo was important because it gave Hutchison access to the technological expertise it would need for the next generation of mobile phones. NTT Docomo gained access to Hong Kong and the China market. ``It's kind of a win-win relationship,' Law said. At about 1110 local time (0310 GMT), Hutchison's parent Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd was up HK$2.00 or 2.22 percent at HK$92.25.
