Egypt reports four new oil and natural gas finds
CAIRO, Dec 2 - Reuters

Egypt's Oil Ministry has discovered four new oil and gas fields with an
estimated total production of 5,240 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and
total reserves of 41.5 million barrels, a cabinet official said on
Thursday.

Ahmed Abu Taleb, the cabinet's secretary-general, told reporters an
oil and natural gas field in Egypt's western desert was estimated to
produce 2,000 bpd of oil, eight million cubic feet of natural gas per
day and had a reserve of 12 million barrels of oil.

Another discovery of an oil and natural gas field in the Suez Gulf was
estimated to produce 1,240 bpd of oil and had a reserve of 10.5
million barrels. No figure was given for the amount of estimated
natural gas output.

Two oilfields were discovered in the Suez Gulf and were estimated to
produce 1,000 bpd of oil each, with a reserve of 9.5 million barrels.

Official figures show Egyptian oil production in September was running
at 768,000 bpd versus 803,100 bpd in September 1998.

The Oil Ministry said in September the number of discoveries in 1999
had reached 17, nine of them oil and eight natural gas.
