Compaq Announces New Graphics
Excellence Program for Workstations; First-in-Industry
Program Brings a Wide Array of Graphics Solutions To
Workstation Users

HOUSTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today
announced the Compaq Graphics Excellence Program in an agreement with industry leading graphics
vendors to deliver a broad portfolio of graphics solutions for demanding Professional Workstation
customers. The Graphics Excellence Program is designed to allow Compaq to quickly identify, test,
certify, and introduce innovative new graphics solutions on Compaq Professional Workstations.

The cornerstone of Compaq's Graphics Excellence Program is a new dedicated facility (which began
operations in Littleton, Massachusetts, in July and opened officially on December 1, 1999) and technical
team to work with leading graphics partners such as 3Dlabs, Intense3D, ELSA, nVIDIA, S3, Matrox and
Appian. The Graphics Excellence Program allows Compaq and its partners to deliver a graphics product
portfolio that addresses a broader range of customer requirements in target market segments, ensures
well integrated and tested workstation solutions and provides the fastest time to market with new
graphics technology without sacrificing stability or customer choice.

''Compaq recognizes that the diverse nature of specialized tasks undertaken by workstation users
demand a wider variety of graphics solutions than any one graphics partner can supply,'' said John
Thompson, Vice President and General Manager of the Workstation Division at Compaq. ''Compaq is
best positioned to fulfill these different customer needs by working with the leading graphics solution
suppliers in the market to bring quality-tested solutions to market faster than ever before.''

The Graphics Excellence Program identifies three categories of partners:

Premier: preinstalled, bundled graphics solutions are integrated in Compaq Deskpro and
Professional Workstations.
Select: graphics solutions are sold and supported by Compaq and its channel partners as
Compaq Deskpro and Professional Workstation channel integrated options.
Specialty: graphics solutions have been tested and certified for integration with Compaq Deskpro
and Professional Workstation systems, which are sold and supported by the graphics vendors'
through Compaq's distribution channels.

Oxygen GVX1 PCI Controller Now Available

Compaq also announced today the availability of the 3Dlabs Oxygen GVX1 PCI controller as a select
graphics option. This controller can be combined with Deskpro and Professional Workstations that
support the AGP version of the controller for a high-performance dual-display 3D environment. The
combination of these controllers provides excellent performance for applications, such as Bentley
Microstation, PTC Pro/ENGINEER, and Discreet 3D Studio MAX, which take advantage of multi-display
configurations.

''Compaq has created a way to bring popular graphics solutions to market faster than ever before,'' said
Osmond Kent, President of 3Dlabs. ''The Graphics Excellence Program meets the needs of both
graphics hardware designers and workstation consumers by creating an environment where we can
cooperate to deliver high-performance, high-quality solutions in a methodical, timely and efficient
manner.''

Compaq First to Deliver Wildcat 4110 PRO

Working closely with Intense3D to test and optimize the next generation Wildcat 4110 graphics
controller, Compaq is the first workstation manufacturer to deliver the Intense3D Wildcat 4110 PRO for
use on Compaq Professional AP550 and SP750 Workstations.

''Compaq's strong platforms, rigorous methodologies and technical excellence make it a leading partner
for Intense3D'', said Jerry Peterson, President of Intense3D. ''As a key partner, Compaq has
demonstrated their ability to bring our leading Wildcat 3D graphics technology to market quickly.

Recent Certifications Expand Compaq Options

Compaq has recently assisted 3Dlabs, S3, and Appian with certification of three new specialty program
solutions. The addition of the Oxygen VX1, Fire GL 1, and Jeronimo Pro expand the rich graphics
product line from available on Compaq's Deskpro and Professional Workstations.

The new graphics solutions through the Graphics Excellence Program complement the broad portfolio of
graphics solutions for the Deskpro and Professional Workstation line, including the Matrox Millennium
G200, Matrox Productiva G100 Quad (MMS), Matrox Millennium G400, ELSA Synergy II, 3Dlabs
Oxygen GVX1, and Compaq PowerStorm 600 based on the Intense3D Wildcat 4000 technology.
