Compaq Announces New Graphics Excellence Program for Workstations; First-in-Industry Program Brings a Wide Array of Graphics Solutions To Workstation Users
HOUSTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today announced the Compaq Graphics Excellence Program in an agreement with industry leading graphics vendors to deliver a broad portfolio of graphics solutions for demanding Professional Workstation customers. The Graphics Excellence Program is designed to allow Compaq to quickly identify, test, certify, and introduce innovative new graphics solutions on Compaq Professional Workstations.
The cornerstone of Compaq's Graphics Excellence Program is a new dedicated facility (which began operations in Littleton, Massachusetts, in July and opened officially on December 1, 1999) and technical team to work with leading graphics partners such as 3Dlabs, Intense3D, ELSA, nVIDIA, S3, Matrox and Appian. The Graphics Excellence Program allows Compaq and its partners to deliver a graphics product portfolio that addresses a broader range of customer requirements in target market segments, ensures well integrated and tested workstation solutions and provides the fastest time to market with new graphics technology without sacrificing stability or customer choice.

The Graphics Excellence Program identifies three categories of partners:
Premier: preinstalled, bundled graphics solutions are integrated in Compaq Deskpro and Professional Workstations. Select: graphics solutions are sold and supported by Compaq and its channel partners as Compaq Deskpro and Professional Workstation channel integrated options. Specialty: graphics solutions have been tested and certified for integration with Compaq Deskpro and Professional Workstation systems, which are sold and supported by the graphics vendors' through Compaq's distribution channels.
Oxygen GVX1 PCI Controller Now Available
Compaq also announced today the availability of the 3Dlabs Oxygen GVX1 PCI controller as a select graphics option. This controller can be combined with Deskpro and Professional Workstations that support the AGP version of the controller for a high-performance dual-display 3D environment. The combination of these controllers provides excellent performance for applications, such as Bentley Microstation, PTC Pro/ENGINEER, and Discreet 3D Studio MAX, which take advantage of multi-display configurations.

Working closely with Intense3D to test and optimize the next generation Wildcat 4110 graphics controller, Compaq is the first workstation manufacturer to deliver the Intense3D Wildcat 4110 PRO for use on Compaq Professional AP550 and SP750 Workstations.

Recent Certifications Expand Compaq Options
Compaq has recently assisted 3Dlabs, S3, and Appian with certification of three new specialty program solutions. The addition of the Oxygen VX1, Fire GL 1, and Jeronimo Pro expand the rich graphics product line from available on Compaq's Deskpro and Professional Workstations.
The new graphics solutions through the Graphics Excellence Program complement the broad portfolio of graphics solutions for the Deskpro and Professional Workstation line, including the Matrox Millennium G200, Matrox Productiva G100 Quad (MMS), Matrox Millennium G400, ELSA Synergy II, 3Dlabs Oxygen GVX1, and Compaq PowerStorm 600 based on the Intense3D Wildcat 4000 technology.
