3Dlabs Oxygen GVX1 PCI Selected by
Compaq as Workstation Dual-Display Solution

Compaq Offers Standard Workstations With Seamless Dual-Display 3D
Acceleration Using 3Dlabs' Recently Announced High-Performance PCI
Accelerator and Multi-Display Drivers

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- 3Dlabs®, Inc. (Nasdaq: TDDD - news) today announced
that Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) has selected the newly-announced PCI
version of the 3Dlabs Oxygen(TM) GVX1 accelerator as the high-performance dual-display solution for
the Compaq Professional Workstations AP200, AP500, AP550, SP700 and SP750 and the Deskpro
Workstation AP250 (not available in North America). By combining a PCI board with an AGP Oxygen
GVX1, Compaq can now deliver high-performance solutions to workstation customers that require a
seamless dual-display 3D-accelerated environment.

3Dlabs' new drivers shipping with the Oxygen GVX1 PCI add significant multi-display power and
flexibility to Windows NT® 4.0 by providing a single, multi-display desktop with a maximum effective
desktop space of up to 8192x1536. All displays are fully 3D-accelerated -- and 2D and 3D windows can
be dragged to any position on any screen without interrupting accelerated operation.

Seamless multi-display acceleration is particularly valuable to users of applications who need to
configure non-overlapping multiple views and menus and run multiple applications simultaneously. Each
display is fully accelerated by its own Oxygen GVX1 geometry and rasterization pipeline -- maximizing
the performance of each display. The Intel Pentium® III-based Compaq Professional Workstations
AP200, AP250, AP500 and AP550 workstations are an excellent price/performance solution for savvy
technical and business professionals, while the Intel Pentium® III Xeon-based Professional
Workstations SP700 and SP750 deliver uncompromising performance and scalability.

Wally thanks for that interesting post. After reading it I must again ask the question - why did they sell Alta Vista? There was nothing to stop them linking their hardware with other portals, as well as with Alta Vista, but with Alta Vista they had a gigantic vehicle under their control and a clear head start in the race for internet continuous stream revenues that they have now decided is cnetral to their strategy.
