Compaq Achieves Number-One PTC Market Share

HOUSTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) announced
that, according to data collected by the Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) at the time of new
Pro/ENGINEER license registration, Compaq has for the first time achieved the number-one overall
market share position within the PTC MDA market.

Parametric Technology Corporation is the largest supplier of 3D CAD applications in the world and one
of the world's largest software companies. As measured during the last quarter, Compaq's market share
numbers reflect products with both a Compaq and a Digital logo (Compaq purchased Digital in June of
1998). For the past year, Compaq has been number one in the Microsoft Windows NT segment of PTC's
Pro/ENGINEER market, outdistancing its competitors by nearly a 2 to 1 margin.

''These market share numbers reflect the excellent relationship between Compaq and PTC as well as
the strong demand for Windows NT-based workstations,'' says Ron Locklin, VP of Strategic Alliances at
PTC. ''We see many workstations designed with Intel processors, and Compaq's are clearly some of
the best. Our customers, who are known for their thoroughness in evaluation, obviously see that too.''

Compaq maintains a lab on site at PTC in Waltham, Massachusetts, to test and certify its products for
PTC applications. Additionally, Compaq uses PTC applications to run tests during the development
phase of new workstation design.

''We not only do our homework in the labs but we bring it to the market place as well.'' says John
Thompson, VP and GM of the Workstation Division at Compaq. ''Last spring PTC launched
Pro/ENGINEER 2000i, with behavioral modeling, the most significant advance in 3D CAD design in over
a decade, and Compaq was there with PTC rolling out worldwide user seminars. Pro/ENGINEER 2000i
and Compaq Professional Workstations are a perfect match.''
