DCCA - FDA news 1/2 hr. ago. Recent IPO, healthcare wireless. Good entry below $15. Doubled position at $14 3/8. Thursday December 2, 9:30 am Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: Data Critical Corporation Data Critical Receives FDA Approval for AlarmView System BOTHELL, Wash., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Critical Corporation (Nasdaq: DCCA - news), a wireless communications technology company, has received notification of FDA 510(k) clearance for its AlarmView(TM) System. This system uses wireless technology from stand-alone monitoring medical equipment to a wireless receiver, creating a virtual network. Designed to allow rapid response to discrete, stand alone medical equipment, it increases caregiver efficiency and flexibility at a low cost per unit. (Photo: newscom.com ) ``Hospitals today are looking to technology for solutions to maintain care standards while moving higher acuity patients to lower cost care areas,' said Jeffrey S. Brown, chief executive officer and president of Data Critical Corporation. ``Along with systems already developed by Data Critical, the StatView(TM) and IMPACT alarm notification systems, and the MobileView(TM) remote access system, AlarmView broadens the areas of the hospital in which Data Critical's products can be applied.' AlarmView attaches to the RS-232 port of stand alone patient monitoring devices and delivers near immediate alarms and other information to wireless receivers in less than ten seconds. As the volume of patient admissions changes, the AlarmView(TM) transmitter can be easily transferred to other devices without requiring costly and time-consuming setup since it is designed to automatically interface upon connection. The AlarmView system is complementary to Data Critical's StatView system as the information from AlarmView transmitters can be sent to the same StatView receiver already worn by caregivers. Data Critical's StatView system features a hand-held receiver that allows nurses remote access to alarm data. Within approximately 10 seconds of a patient's alarm, StatView displays the current ECG waveform and patient location and information. In February 1999, Data Critical entered into an agreement with Nellcor Puritan Bennett, a division of Mallinckrodt Inc., under which Nellcor paid Data Critical to integrate the AlarmView system with Nellcor's oximetry products. Nellcor, the industry's leading provider of pulse oximetry monitoring devices, also agreed to distribute AlarmView. The virtual Wireless Telemedicine(TM) environment provided by Data Critical's new product line will give hospitals the ability to more closely monitor patients' conditions, particularly in areas of low nurse-to-patient ratio. Data Critical Corporation designs, manufactures, markets, installs and supports communication and information systems, using wireless technology and proprietary software to allow access to health information, including patient vital signs and other diagnostic data. Information on Data Critical is available at www.datacritical.com. Other than historical information set forth herein, this announcement may contain forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties, including the effect of a FDA 510(k) clearance on Data Critical's business. Additional risks associated with Data Critical's business can be found in its recent Registration Statement and other periodic filings with the SEC.
