ViewCast.com Opens YourVideoOnTheWeb.com, Enabling Consumers to Share Video On The Internet
Site offers free video hosting package for homes and small businesses
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1999-- ViewCast.com (Nasdaq:VCST - news) today opened the first commercial web site ( yourvideoontheweb.com ) dedicated to hosting home and small-business videos.

The site is a free service for those who purchase Your Video on the Web, a complete package for $99.95 that allows PC users to capture video from a camcorder and stream (broadcast) it over the Internet.

ViewCast.com has partnered with Activate.net, a leader in streaming media solutions, to provide network services for delivering video hosted on the site. The Your Video on the Web Internet video kit is currently available for purchase online at the yourvideoontheweb.com site and will be sold through online distributors and at popular electronic, video and computer retail outlets.

Subscribers to www.yourvideoontheweb.com receive up to 5-MB of disk space and approximately one hour of streaming per month for free with the purchase of the Your Video on the Web product. Upgrade packages that provide increased file space and streaming time are available from ViewCast.com.

''We're excited to see ViewCast.com extending the streaming media market into home video,'' said Ben Rotholtz, general manager, systems and tools, RealNetworks Inc. (NASDAQ: RNWK - news). ''RealSystem G2 with Osprey video capture has been a great success and this new Your Video on the Web retail package and hosting service makes it easier than ever for a home PC user to join the streaming media revolution.''

Streaming Goes Mainstream

Your Video on the Web, based on ViewCast.com's Osprey video capture card - the de facto standard for RealNetworks' G2 and Microsoft's Windows Media Technology - is available in both PCI and USB versions. It enables people with home computers to capture video weddings, graduations, soccer games, vacations, baby's first steps, business presentations - from camcorders, VCRs or DVD players. Easy-to-use tools allow users to select the best parts of their videos, add titles, and even synch up a soundtrack. After a simple conversion into a streaming format, files can be automatically uploaded to yourvideoontheweb.com .

On the web site, users can choose from a variety of online video album templates into which they simply drop their video, or they can design their own customized templates. Friends, relatives or business associates anywhere in the world can then use the free RealNetworks RealPlayer 7 player to view the video albums without lengthy download times.

''Until now, Internet streaming video has been limited primarily to businesses and commercial web sites because of bandwidth, complexity and price,'' said Paul Neutz, director of business development for Activate.net, a majority-owned operating company of CMGI Inc. ''The free web site, teamed with the low-cost Your Video on the Web product, shatters these barriers. We are pleased to be a part of this effort to bring this powerful communications medium into homes and small businesses.''

A Welcome to the Streaming Video World

Beyond its role as a host site, www.yourvideoontheweb.com serves as a guide to every facet of Internet streaming video. Clearly written and illustrated instructions are available for system setup and for collecting, capturing, enhancing, compressing and streaming video. Tips and advice walk the first-time user through the experience of creating Internet streaming video. A ''Help + Tools'' section includes a description of streaming video, a glossary of commonly used Internet video terms, answers to frequently asked questions, user manuals, a site map, and information on other references.
