edamo,
re>only six months ago some posters on this thread, especially one who had a head of meat
took me in a flaming manner to task, when i suggested innovative design for dell...much
as gtw and aapl......absurd i was lambasted, such things are for interior designers and
boutique owners....dell is for real men....<

NOT!!!

I see you still thrive on mischacterizing others' opinions. No matter how many times you repeat this falsehood it will remain false.

My original post to you...

It's too early for Dell to cater to the consumer segment that wants artsy looking PC's. Dell's big customers are not clamouring for cute systems and certainly wont pay the premiums.

In time, business PC's will migrate toward space saving designs and consumers will want designer PC's... that much is obvious. The other obvious observation is that demand in these segments is ultra small right now. Apple has always catered to the artistic community so the Imac design was not a bad gamble.

For some strange reason, you confuse the phrase "It's too early for Dell..." with "Dell should not..". Read slowly,
carefully and do try to comprehend.

All the Above is still true:

1. Businesses are and will continue to migrate towards
space saving designs
2. Designer PC's for consumers are gaining popularity and now Dell believes the time is right to cautiously enter this market... as opposed to six months ago.
3. Demand in the designer PC space as a percentage of the
80 Million or so PC's shipped each year is larger today than
six months ago... but still small.

I've always contended that Dell will enter a product space
when the time is right... period. That's good business.

You continually seem more concerned with how a company manages perceptions rather than it's business... that puts
you in the category of "trader" rather than "investor" in
my book.

More on the WHEN not the IF...

Seems like Dell supports my position on market timing. They have entered this market at the later date (Dec99 as opposed to Jun99) as I had suggested.
