Jury selection by lot is a myth, IMO. Jury make-up is largely a product of jockeying for advantage by the defense and prosecution. I think it would be much more democratic to seat the ones who show up (excepting, perhaps, convicted felons, relatives and the clinically insane).

I agree totally with the idea that people holding elective office should be selected at random, like juries. Surely if we can trust people to decide whether a person should live or die we can trust them, for only a couple of years, to run our government.

We should never elect people who lust after the job. They are after the power trip. All of 'em. Well, maybe not Senator Proxmire. He really did mingle with the common folk. I ran into him several times on the street sounding out the people, without the cameras rolling.
