I thoroughly agree. However, the rest of your posting does not stand up to scrutiny. This presentation was given to a group of "buy-side" analysts, portfolio managers, investment advisors, and investors. Until the web and online trading, these people represented much of the public, since they invest for mutual funds and retirement funds.

Price does not even today "belong" to the analysts, especially not the Wall Street analysts. It is still heavily in the hands of these people who do the actual buying and selling of shares. If they do not go along with a Wall Street analyst's recommendation, the analyst can recommend until he or she falls over from exhaustion and nothing happens. Laura Conigliaro at Goldman Sachs has had a buy on PMTC for quite a while, yet the stock was a mess.
