How true and funny Lucius.

Although, I was part of an investor's group that sent lots of letters and complaints to 20th Century in regards to one of their funds. It was a trust fund for children and once the money was in - it's locked for a number of years depending on the arrangement - the underperformance was dismal. I chose it as one of the investments for my son when he was born because I felt this fund could manage small/mid-cap investing better than I could do on my own. Well, they couldn't even match the small-cap index and we actually lost money for a number of years when we should have been making money according to the index. A few letters later, the fund managers were removed and Mr. and Mrs. new fund managers have just about doubled the money. The few small-caps and mid-caps that I invested in personally crushed the returns of the money I chose to have others invest because of my comfort level in that arena.

Point being - if there is one - the salary and job security depends on performance when investors are involved. Had they matched the index - they would still be there unfortunately.
