Re: "I'm still reminded of Atiq Raza's quote (paraphrased), "Profits are a good deodorant, but we stink."
I think AMD's booming Flash business could be serving as that deodorant right now, at least during the time span between now and Fab 30's ramp-up. A lot of AMD's potential to break even this quarter rests on the boom in Flash. Of course, flash is hardly a topic that comes up on this thread, since people are too focused on discussing Coppermine and Athlon. Yeah, I know, AMD's future rests on Athlon, but still."

As an investor, I can't help but ponder where AMD's share price might be if AMD had chosen to pump all those $$Billions$$ pissed away on fighting the evil empire, into their profitable product lines instead? They once owned the PLD business but sold it off to fight Intel. The killed off the 29K product line because they needed the money to fight Intel. They are talking of selling off the communications line because they need the money to fight Intel. How long until they sell off Flash because they need the money to fight Intel? Where would they be today if they had instead pumped that money into PLD, the 29K, comms and Flash? Instead they dumped $Billions$ into processors which is still a money loser.

Lucy keeps saying "this time it'll be different" and Charlie Brown still kicks at that football....

Tench, you may not have noticed but Raza is not at AMD anymore....the reality may have been that the stink was not coming from AMD. Things are not always the way they appear.

So what; is there something important that you want to say about flash and you feel like you have to hold back? Let me just say...go ahead and speak your mind.

RE <<Of course, flash is hardly a topic that comes up on this thread, since people are too focused on discussing Coppermine and Athlon. Yeah, I know, AMD's future rests on Athlon, but still.>>>

Of course flash is hardly brought up...it doesn't have the buzz that the Athlon or Cumine has.

What's funny about all this, is that you didn't mind talking about the Athlon when it was MIA, or there was talk of copper contamination; only now when the Cumine is having trouble are you wanting to move to other topics. And I understand, it sucks to hear about all the intc misfires around the cumine and other products. But where were you, when this thread was inundated with non stop trashing of AMD and the Athlon by intc longs...when the Athlon launch was not going as fast as everyone had hoped? I don't remember you posting; hey guys, lets lay off a little, or did I miss that post.

Frankly I don't like it all that much either but guess what, it wasn't the AMD longs who set the scene. Hopefully it will abate soon but none of it is any surprise (at least to me).
