Okay, you needn't give away the store, although recusing at this point is going to drive Jay nuts. As for E&Y, assessing the tradeoffs would be an interesting exercise if we could agree on some basic assumptions going in. Perhaps some other time.

A point that just occurred to me is this:

Currently there are many large corporate intranets which do not yet employ distributed webtops and thin clients in the manner we're discussing here, obviously. And many of these extant networks already employ large amounts of bandwidth, which, in some cases would not be impacted significantly by the addition of distributed applications, from a bandwidth consuming perspective, especially those which employ massive amounts of file transfers, engineering graphics, bulk data flows, and large daily replications of databases across all sites.

Much in the same way as Chambers or Crowe stating that voice will get buried within the much larger data flows, so, to, in some enterprises the desktop apps could become overshadowed by the more demanding forms of core business and the newer streaming applications riding over the same fat pipes. Your point, however, about the burden of back end support is well taken.
