Gene...fair points...also consider the number of folks who can't get out of the house due to disabilities and the like, add to this the classic DINK's (double income, no kids) who have no time or want to food shop, sprinkle in a few estimates by Jupiter Analysts that say this will be a $3.5B business in 2002 and you've got a pretty powerful business case...I agree that home delivery is a pain in the rear, but they've done numerous studies using PPOD and WBVN as test cases and actually, very few orders got screwed up and those that did got extra points for customer service in how they addressed the problem...wrt "when the major chains get into this", well, now they're late, kinda like Toys R Us getting losing ground to ETOYS or KBEE...they're still hemorraging from that one...further, if they were smart, the like of WallMart would simply buy the like of a PPOD or WBVN and save themselves some pain.
