You are right enough. I mention immigration only to note that a sparcely populated continent had land aplenty for the enterprising, and that those who came eventually contributed to the overall prosperity of the world. Without expansion and the organization of this territory, providing an infrastructure encouraging exploration and investment, millions would have been deprived of opportunity, and their descendants would have suffered. Therefore, I am glad that we expanded across the continent, if unhappy about the ruthlessness with which we did it, and embrace the notion of Manifest Destiny on that basis......
