Hi Yougang Xiao,

Found this on Electronic NEws site - about gateway. Not much new information except for the interesting info about K6-X in the last paragraph, so, don't skip reading it -

Speculation mounts that Gateway will use Athlon

Dec 02, 1999 --- Speculation continues to mount that Gateway Computer Corp. will bundle Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)'s Athlon processor in several upcoming PC lines.

Currently, Gateway only uses 400MHz K6-2 chips in its Profile line of business and consumer desktops. Should Gateway, which has remained tightlipped on the subject, unveil an Athlon-based system, the deal would represent the latest in a series of reversals involving Gateway and AMD. In late September, Gateway was planning to stop buying AMD microprocessors in favor of Intel chips, less than seven months after signing on the Intel rival as a chip supplier. The decision wiped out AMD's once minor coup of getting Gateway business. The Wall Street Journal cited people close to the matter as saying Gateway would switch to Intel chips once current models using AMD microprocessors were exhausted. Intel hadagreed to more favorable supply terms between the two companies. According to published reports, the deal Intel cut with AMD involved a rebate. This could not be confirmed.

Analysts, hearing from too many sources about the deal, believe it is a good bet that Gateway will announce systems using the Athlon chip soon. Regardless, the computer vendor will continue to use K6-2 processors in its Profile line. On Wednesday, November 23, Gateway posted new online product descriptions for the line, all of which include the K6-2 chips. In remains to be seen whether Gateway will bite on the cranked-up 750MHz Athlon or any other processor from this chip family. Stay tuned.

Yougang,

<My comments yesterday and today re after hour trading is AMD SPECIFIC.

Notice a striking feature of the AMD after hour price in the last few days -- it is BECOME A CLOSE PRICE even though they were small in numbers.

After hour prices for other stocks WOULD NOT CONSECUTIVELY become close price for the stocks in question. But, AMD did in the last couple of days.

The AMD situation implies that someone really knows the inner working of quote system and that person commands capacity to put into the few hundred share trade as close price. It is amazing to me, to say the least.>

After seeing today behave almost exactly like it did the last 3 or 4 times the after hour uptick played out, I finally feel that these trades may not be benign.

I can see two potential scenarios:
1. A long who wants to accumulate at low prices by playing the market psychology
2. A short (stock or AMD Dec 30 calls) want to keep AMD in a range and not pick up momentum.

Does that make sense? Or, am I smoking the same thing that Yougang is smoking and we both should be quarantined ;-)
