The Palo Alto, Calif.-based computer company (SUNW) also said it named George Paolini, vice president, Java Community Development. Paolini was formerly vice president of marketing for Sun's Software Products and Platforms. Sun also named Rich Green vice president, Java Software Development. Green was formerly vice president, Solaris Products Group. Mike Clary was named vice president, Business Development, Sales and Services. Clary was formerly head of the Consumer and Embedded Software group. David Gee was named vice president, Marketing for Sun Software Products and Platforms. Gee joins Sun from International Business Corp. (IBM). Rob Gingell was named chief technology officer, Software Products and Platforms. Gingell was vice president, Architecture and Technology. Java, which is both a programming language and a set of related software "libraries," can be used to create programs that run on a variety of incompatible computer systems without major modifications. Since launching the technology in 1995, Sun has cast Java as the centerpiece of its effort to break software makers' dependence on Microsoft and its Windows operating system.
