Yougang Xiao,

It is unclear whether the K6 based Profile is the leftover or a recent extension as suggested by the article.

The K6 based Profile is the same model that GTW introduced long time ago. Gateway's plan a month ago was to obsolete these models and stop buying any more AMD K6-X chips.

According to the article, Gateway updated/added online Profile product descriptions as recently as Nov 23, 99. All the new pages they added contained K6-X based Profile models and hence indicating that GTW has changed its plans to continue offering K6-X based Profile models.

I bolded only part of the line by mistake and it should have been - "On Wednesday, November 23, Gateway posted new online product descriptions for the line, all of which include the K6-2 chips."

regards,
Goutama

Yougang,

<The bold portion is quite confusing. Currently, GTW offers two Profile lines. One is Celeron starting at 433 mhz. K6 is another (400 mhz only). This url is for K6.>

May be not that confusing if you believe Intel is not shipping enough Celrons and low-speed grade PIIIs and trying to upsell.

If this belief of mine is true (which I think is pretty well supported by emperical data), Gateway might be extending the life of the Profile series by getting some extras K6s from AMD and that probably is at the expense of lower sales of Profile-2 (I believe Profile is AMD and profile-2 is Celeron)
