I used E-Trade for six months and couldn't stand it anymore: terribly slow executions at times, countless commission errors, mistakes on buys that wouldn't find their way into my account (so I couldn't sell them the next day), etc.

I switched to Schwab and have had very, very few problems:

- executions range from 15 seconds to a few minutes
- I can get a broker on the phone almost immediately
- customer service is excellent if you have a question
or problem
- there are commission errors, but *they* find them before
I do, typically
- only one error where I'd bought a stock that hadn't gotten
registered in my account by the next morning, and it
presented no problems: I phoned, got a broker and had
it sold within minutes

All in all, and from reading the experience of other Canadian traders, the best place to trade.

I use Canada-Stockwatch for LII and realtime, graphs, etc. Fair to middling, IMO, but it's hard to find a US counterpart that covers all the CDN exchanges and stocks.
