Part 3 of 5: Chat with Echelon Mgmt by AnitaPage (Yahoo posting) Hey! It's Chat Time....part 3 by: AnitaPage 12/3/1999 1:08 am EST Msg: 13275 of 13287 Q22: Bea, Yokogawa recently announced that they will develop a line of LonWorks products for the process control industry. Do you have any idea of their timeframe/status? A22: Yokogawa is already shipping some products. They are very aggressive about this move. I have no information on which products they'll announce and when. They are a terrific partner….B Q23: I heard the government is trying to decide which field bus to use for HVAC in their buildings. Do you know when they will decide and how Echelon stacks up? A23: We are included right now in a number of GSA specifications, and in a number of federal buildings already. I think we stack up pretty well….B Q24: How does LonWorks relate to Jini, does one make the other obsolete? A24: LonWorks is totally compatible with and complementary to Jini. That is why we work so closely with Sun and why Bill Joy, daddy of Jini, was a speaker at our event and said that Echelon is THE leader in device networking and Sun is proud to be working with Echelon. Q25: How much does i.LON cost OEM's now, in 100k quantities, and how much do you expect it will cost in 2002? A25: Pricing of i.LON will be announced at a later date. Let me know where those 100k are. Q26: Maybe a naive question…does Echelon disclose how much revenue is generated from each chip produced? I've heard 1 cent. A26: Echelon does not disclose royalty rates…. Q27: Chris, I take it you are pleased to see the increased trading volume. Are you noting more analyst interest? A27: I am very pleased with our increased trading volume. All three of the firms that publish research on Echelon attended the event and they were impressed. Q28: Chris, how do you see Echelon's revenue mix unfolding through FY 2000 and beyond? A28: Echelon does not provide any information with respect to revenue mix? Q29: Does Jini need LonWorks to create solutions in LonWorks field or can it bypass LonWorks, solving the same problems in the same way without LonWorks? A29: Jini does not bypass LonWorks. Jini and LonWorks are different and compatible. They do different things. For example, Jini might be in your digital camera and will enable you to hook it up, with a little bit of set up, to your TV set. LonWorks will be in the everyday devices, able to communicate to that camera as well as all the other devices. Q30: Keeping in the spirit of anonymity and ubiquity, can you give an estimate of how many new products are in the pipeline for introduction in 2000? A30: Anita, nice try. We will, however, announce new products as they are launched….B Q31: Chris, I noticed an increase in Echelon's trading volume. Was that associated with a particular event that you are aware of (was it early Press Event invitations or some other event). A31: I believe that the increase in trading volume was in part a carryover from the October announcement. The event merely reinforced this message. Q32: Sorry if this was asked and answered, but if not, why did Sun join your love-in on Monday? A32: Sun joined the event (it was a love-in, happily) because they are real believers that what Echelon is doing is the way to connect and control devices. They also believe in our technology and management….B Q33: Chris, have you produced any sales forecast for the i.LON and, if so, what is it based on? A33: Echelon has forecasts for the i.LON product. Echelon works with a large number of customers and prospects. We believe our forecasts are credible.
