Q10: Chris, now that the first shipments of i.LON appear to have started, how do you balance the product development vs.
the budget objectives. In other words, please speak about the priority of Echelon showing a profit.
A10: The i.LON product commences shipments next quarter. We do not count Beta shipments as product shipments. I
don't want to make a specific forecast with respect to profitability. I think you are aware of our improvements this year. We
are focused on attaining profitability, but we are also focused on bringing breakthrough products to market.

Q11: Why did Motorola sell their position?
A11: I don' know why Motorola has sold Echelon stock. Please remember that they made their investment when Echelon
was a private company, and they have held onto their stock longer than other early investors.

Q12: I was disappointed that the 11/30 release was not a joint Cisco/Echelon release. It appears Cisco considers this an
Echelon product/event. Am I wrong?
A12: The i.LON is an Echelon product and not a Cisco product. It does include Cisco software and we worked very
closely with Cisco and they will brand the product. However, announcing the product was ours. For the event, Cisco was
indeed very supportive and said they and Echelon are good partners.

Q13: Chris or Bea, who is a greater forward thinker—Oshman or Markkula?
A13: That's a hard one. Both Ken and Mike are brilliant thinkers and visionaries. They each have contributed a great deal to
the valley and to tech worldwide. I wouldn't want to vote…B

Q14: Chris or Bea, exactly how does Echelon fit into the Microsoft Plug & Plan initiative. Will LonWorks become more
PNP compatible?
A14: Echelon is on the UpnP Steering Committee. That means we are working to insure full compatibility between
LonWorks network and UpnP. B

Q15: Chris or Bea, do you have any other products in the works you can tell us about?
A15: We don't preannounce products…sorry….B

Q16: Bea, do you know/can you share any details of the recent Cisco utility AMR deal in China (involving a LonWorks
using company called MTC)?
A16: I really don't have specifics about the Cisco contract – Chris.

Q17: I recently saw a commercial with ABB about electrical deregulation. Does this segment of the market still hold high
priority with you?
A17: Deregulation is an important catalyst and we are working with many companies in that sphere…B

Q18: How is LonWorks positioned against Bluetooth?
A18: Bluetooth is very different from LonWorks. It is an RF solution for mobile devices…it is not a control network….B

Q19: During a quarterly conference call, I asked Ken about the Echelon/Web TV rumor and his response was “they'd be
smart if they did (include LonWorks in their boxes).” How actively does Echelon pursue folks like WebTV and other
potential gateway providers.
A19: B…Echelon is working with a number of gateway providers.

Q20: I suppose names of those providers can't be given here?….
A20: Anita….you silly girl….of course not….B

Q21: Looking to CES 2000 can you address Echelon's presence.
A21: Echelon will be at CES….unfortunately, I can't give specifics at this time. You will see us in a number of places. Stay
tuned…..B
