Part 1 of 5: Chat with Echelon Mgmt by AnitaPage (Yahoo posting) Hey! It's Chat Time...part 1 by: AnitaPage 12/3/1999 12:59 am EST Msg: 13273 of 13287 Following is the transcript from tonight's session with Chris Stanfield (CFO) and Bea Yormack (Big Cheese/Marketing....I forgot her title). Answers that end with "B" were given by Bea (makes sense). Answers preceded by "Chris" were given by Chris. Sometimes there was no indication who was responding, so you get to guess. This will have to be in several parts, because it's long. Also, MOST important, THANK YOU elonfever!!! You saved the day.... Q1: What would you like to communicate regarding Echelon's market focus and vision for 2000? A1: Our market focus will continue along the same lines as we've been during these past few months. We will continue to announce important events, products and customer applications. Q2: I found this on the Echelon website, but nowhere else – including the Press Event. “On November 30, 1999, Echelon ushered in a more powerful internet with the launch of its i.LON Internet Server.” Are there plans to restate this in PR? A2: I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. We announced the i.LON in October (with a press release issued on October 13th). In that release we announced shipments in Q1 2000 and betas in December 1999. Q3: Please share a few comments (markets and initiatives) about the early adopters of the i.LON server. A3: I would love to do that, but because of our agreements with Cisco, we cannot announce the initial sites. They are in NA, Europe and Asia. Q4: The Press Event appears to be a great success. Please share some of the comments you received at the reception. A4: Many people commented that they really understood what we were saying and that Echelon's message was very clear. They were delighted that we had the event. These people were also able to place past announcements (LNS 3.0 and PLT-22) into a complete context. It was very well received and we believe a success. Q5: In understand that the San Jose Mercury News was not in attendance. They are the leading newspaper for Silicon Valley. Do you anticipate a follow up with them? A5: I haven't gotten a list of who did attend. I know, for sure, that Knight-Ridder (owners of the San Jose Mercury News) was there. Of course, we will follow up with everyone that attended and send information to those who didn't. Q6: Expanding on that question…have any media/press types asked for further information or in any way indicated they would be doing a feature story? A6: The press never tells you exactly what they plan. We are definitely following up with them and will work with them on any story they want to write. Q7: Which sounds like no one has specifically requested more information…an interview with Ken or anything along those lines. A7: Ken receives press requests from time to time. He also made himself available to the press after the event and spoke with several of them. Q8: Bea – in the past, most of Echelon's marketing has been focused vertically. Do you envision this changing with the shipment of i.LON? A8: Our PR will continue to focus on those things that are deemed to be important news. We will focus on system level applications, but we will continue to focus on our vertical markets. Q9: Chris, there have been numerous complaints about Echelon's market makers. I know you've addressed this before. Please share your insights on this. A9: I believe you use the term market makers to refer to market participants. I believe that there is intense competition between these parties and that this competition, when combined with NASDAQ's supervision, is the best protection for stockholders.
