In 1956 my grandmother saw a deer and that was so rare that it made the paper. Hunting was first started in Illinois in 1966 with a kill of around 5,000. This year it will be around 175,000.

Genitics plays a part in size but one big advantage is that there is food everywhere. Deer here never have to look for corn or beans. They become eating machines. What are considered trophies in many states would be passed up by many hunters here.
