Part 5 of 5: Chat with Echelon Mgmt by AnitaPage (Yahoo posting) Hey! It's Chat Time....part 5 by: AnitaPage 12/3/1999 1:15 am EST Msg: 13277 of 13287 Q47: Bea, can you share noteworthy product interest trends since our last chat. A47: Our product announcements of the i.LON, LNS 3.0 and LonMaker for Windows 3.0 have all generated a lot of interest. We are seeing more and more LNS plug-ins for products. I think these are also key contributors for having Echelon run away from any other solutions out there. Q48: Chris, what would be the effect of Prudential acquiring Volpe, one of Echelon's three sell-side analysts? A48: I have heard the same rumors that you have heard. I don't know if it will happen. However, if Prudential or some other such company were to acquire Volpe, I assume that they would do so to become part of Volpe's high-tech practice. Q49: Chris or Bea, is there a particular sector you see with the greatest potential for growth in 2000, i.e., industrial, home, etc. A49: I think the buildings market will grow and is an important market for us. The home will begin to happen in 2000 and we are already pretty well entrenched in the industrial/process control sectors….B Q50: Bea, there were a few utilities (remote meter reading) initiatives in process. Please share an update. A50: There are a number of utility projects that are happening and we are in the thick of them. Our power line technology, which is accepted world wide, is being used in a lot of these initiatives….B Q51: What happened to Intellon? They used to be the best of the Echelon pretenders, did they fall off the face of the earth? A51: I think Intellon is still around, but I'm not sure that they're doing. We don't run into them. Q52: Sorry if this is a trivial question, but are your products involved at all in the “House of the Future” that Disney has at Epcot Center. I sometimes see other companies issue PR about being involved. A52: Our products are not in the Disney house…that was done long before Echelon's customers had products for that house. Q53: Chris or Bea, I assume that in the past Echelon has worked closely with facility managers to sell their products. Does Echelon have any plans to focus on IS departments as a way of selling their new products? A53: We have plans to focus up and down the enterprise….IS is very important. Our i.LON product is really focused on those folks and therefore we have included lots of features that make it easy for them to install and manage…B Q54: Regarding PR, is there further work encouraging customers to correctly reference Echelon's LonWorks (NASDAQ ELON)? A54: We have had a lot of PR this year…several articles/week worldwide…we are very pleased with that…we always work with our customers to announce their Echelon products. Q55: Will the i.LON server become the backbone of revenue for the company? Will you share in revenues of the companies built around the LonWorks standard? A55: The i.LON is one of our many products…all of them contribute to our revenue…we think the i.LON is an important addition to our offerings… Q56: Bea, I had to ask this last question. Please comment on your initiative in the auto industry (is LonWorks in the 2000 series Mercedes)? A56: Echelon products are used in the production facilities for automobiles but, to date, are not included in the guts of the autos. Q57: Are there plans to penetrate the household with Echelon products. A57: We expect LonWorks products to be in the home…there are several products available today being installed in homes worldwide. We all thanked Chris and Bea, as well as all the other hard-working folks at Echelon. Chris and Bea left us with the following message: “Thank you all. We appreciate your ongoing support. We will thank everyone for you… Happy Holidays to all of you…fly before December 31st…Happy and Healthy New Year…your friends at Echelon….Bringing the Internet to Life.”
