RE: DELL 'weakness' today

There are a bunch of stories beginning to circulate that there is currently a shortage of Intel chips in the 'sweet spot,' i.e. 450 MHz to 600 MHz. The story goes that the direct sellers are bearing the most pain, as they carry the least inventory. Further, they are trying to either sell customers up or down from this sweet spot, and not surprisingly, when customers aren't choosing to go elsewhere, they are trading down, not up. Thus, there is both a revenue and an ASP hit. I can't find anything that could be regarded as a totally reliable source yet, however.

The closest thing I can find is S. Fortuna, for whom I know this thread has less than a high regard. He stated that he has spoken with GTW management this morning, and they acknowledged that there is currently a shortage of Coppermine based 450 MHz chips right now. Hence, GTW seeing a little more underperformance than DELL today. Scarcely a total shortage in the 'sweet spot', but it's the best I've got right now.
