SHe was the only one from the dynasty that did anything. Nehru, Rajiv,.. were all appeasers more concerned with their image, living in their own dreamworld, mistaken as vision, by the populace.

Indira was an IRON LADY in the same genre as Margaret Thatcher but more so. She was perceived so regal that Nixon and Kissinger had some nice things to say about her. US's dispatch of Aircraft carrier? during Indopakistan war to the Bay of Bengal drew a lot of ire from Indians. I heard unsubstantiated stories of Indian air force crash landing on the aircraft carrier if it came to that. Remember the infamous Nixonian TILT. What a turnaround US has made now?

Nehru always appeared as if he had his head in the clouds. Rajiv, the pilot, just couldn't do it. That air dropping of food to the Sri Lankan Tamils, sending the huge tanks to the North Ceylon and getting all those jawans killed were an act of stupidity, lack of political and governing experience. The often portrayed nobility in the refugee Nehru Family hasn't prevented Rajiv from the Bofors Scandal. When Rajiv visited US during his term in office, he sported a silly grin, & gave silly answers on a TV interview, unworthy of an Indian Prime Minister.
