Heh, I use all kinds of crazy numbers for different things. 8, 34, and 55 period MAs for example. You should see my settings for Stochastics and Relative Strength. But 4 I use for several things......perhaps it's because a cycle system I use quite a bit is based on a cycle of 12 with a subset of 4. I downloaded the Developer's app. Now I just have to figure how how to describe to them that I want to create a cycle application. They will probably cross me off as a Satanist or something. Perhaps I'll tell them I want to create a Pivot application instead. That's far more mainstream, although for the life of me I don't understand why.
