"does that suggest buy a basket of all?"

1. The Briefing.com guys are not GGers, even though they follow a lot of the same stocks we do, so I would take their ideas and analysis merely as a starting point for one's own DD.

2. I made some nice money this year on PMCS and RFMD before I consolidated into my current, pretty classic G&K portfolio; other people have made a lot on BRCM and CNXT; all four of those companies seem quite impressive in many respects and worth checking out if they meet your own investing criteria.

3. I defer to Franq and others more knowledgeable on whether to be in chip makers at all, and if so, which ones and how to play them.

PMC-Sierra (PMCS): Tough picking between PMCS, Broadcom (BRCM), Conexant (CNXT) and RF Micro Devices (RFMD), but combination of faster revenue growth, slightly discounted valuations, top management team and impressive relationships/client list tipped selection to PMCS... Obviously competition is intense, but demand in the communications chip marketplace is tremendous, and we see no material let-up for several years to come... Consolidation in the industry is likely, with the winner set to be the next Intel (INTC)... Or will Intel end up being the next Intel?

Shouldn't VTSS be included in that list? They are the King of the gallium arsenide chips for telecom (and have also done extremely well in the last year).

does that suggest buy a basket of all?

uw, I believe so. The reason I say so is because about last Feb I started buying JDSU, PMCS, CNXT, BRCM. Overtime I narrowed it down to just JDSU and PMCS. If I had held on to BRCM and added RMFD, I would have done almost as good as I did with just PMCS and JDSU, I am pretty sure.

If I weren't so far along with my narrowing down to JDSU and PMCS, I would go back and buy a basket. THis may be a royalty game though, so be careful

On the other hand, JDSU is a King, so why bother with the rest?
