Since the release of camino on 11/15 we have separately ordered three rambus machines from Dell. In each case the delivery date has moved steadily into the future. This week we note that the rambus memory upgrade prices from Dell have nearly doubled, while the base system price remains unchanged at approximately $200 premium for rambus. Our interpretation of this is that the rambus systems are selling better than Dell anticipated and they are trying to conserve RIMMs until Samsung's restarted (from beginning Nov)production arrives in January.

Our sources indicate that the manufacturers contract price on drdrams is only 30% above sdram prices. The delayed introductions by other OEMs and astronomical RIMM prices in the after market appear to us to be RIMM shortage driven, not cost, not functionality, not lack of acceptance by consumers.
