You ever see those matchstick forests in the Florida panhandle or South Georgia? Equally spaced in nice neat rows and all the same size. Efficient I guess, but hardly beautiful.

If you were a woodworker you would know how false that is.

A black walnut is not a lombardy poplar is not a maple.

A tree is a tree is a tree...

Not exactly.... If you'd ever walked through Muir Wood, you couldn't say that with a straight face.

I know of securities analysts who refused to recommend or even cover Maxxam after it acquired Pacific Lumber because they recognized that to pay down the debt Maxxam took on to make the acquisition would mean that Maxxam would be looking to cut down every damned redwood on the land. Pacific Lumber prior to the acquisition preserved old growth and was active in reforestation. Their concerns were justified and the ensuing litigation was phenomenal.
