My guess is that Intel and Gateway are arguing like crazy about the terms of the exclusivity deal. Gateway will be saying the Intel are in breach because of under-delivery and therefore they are at liberty to ship Athlons. Intel will be waving their big stick and saying a contract is a contract.

You have to wonder what the other OEMs think about the Intel-Gateway relationship. Probably rather amused now that Gateway are getting beaten up with their hands tied behind their back.
