I have not had a chance to check filings, and I do not want to mislead anyone, so I referred to it as rumor - I've been running ragged lately.

Thanks for the heads up.

Looky here!

Again from DTF, issued tonight:

Vari-L ($22; NASDAQ: VARL) surged past $20 in late November in what appeared to be a momentum-fed rally. There was no material news to account for the near doubling of the stock. The rally was significant in that it thrust the market value of Vari-L's stock above $100 million. That's typically the minimum level required by mutual funds before they consider taking a position. Trading volume has been strong of late, and the stock has finally broken past its 1995-96 high.

Vari-L is starting to draw the attention of a few small-cap funds. The decision to add Vari-L to the Focus List in the November 22 issue has likewise fueled buying pressure. Some investors have expressed concerns over the level of insider selling, noting that some executives were exercising options and immediately selling stock. In most cases, it appears that management had to exercise options before they expired. In other cases, it appears as if management might be intentionally selling stock to increase the public float and broaden the pool of shareholders.

Investors should be alerted that such rapid rallies (Vari-L doubled in about four weeks) can flame out in a hurry if fed only by momentum. But the bright demand-growth prospects for wireless-telecom components suggest Vari-L's profits are headed higher, and we intend to keep Vari-L a "buy" as long as its fundamental position remains solid.
