What politics? I think the man was trying make a point about 'globalisation' and its implications to the local culture, particularly the regional languages. Just because he tried to illustrate the point by going back in history doesn't necessarily make it political but if it turned out to be that way so what? I don't think he made up the whole thing up just to offend former colonial powers, on the contrary he was criticizing his own fellow country men I thought.

The purpose of the whole exercise was proabably to initiate a debate among the local literary circles.
