Just a hypothetical question William.. (although if the market continues at this pace it wont be hypothetical at all)

What if over the next 3 months money poured into the internut stocks with such ferocity that 50% of the total capital in the nasdaq was concentrated into 10 stocks that had no earnings?

Should the fed care?

And how can you say the fed should leave the markets alone, when the fed has stated over and over that they will step in to lower rates aggresively if the market tanks..

I dont see you complaining about that.. Are you saying the fed should bail out the speculators if the bottom drops out, but it should do nothing to curb rampant speculation on the upside?

William -- we will have to wait and see, but current indications on GNP, including information released today on hours worked, all seems to indicate that the current quarter is running at 6% annual growth -- and there is no reason to think it will slack off next year. Maybe we will cool, maybe not. But for right now, it is 'let-er-rip'. I will allow this to get 'factored in' -- we should at least have a continued short squeeze -- and then re-assess. Best thing for me now would be a sharp run-up in net stocks. It would give me something to shoot at later. As always, good luck and enjoy the weekend -- no market distractions.

<<GST, the economy is cooling. That what raising interest rates does.>>

William, just for devil's advocate sake, Larry Kudlow believes that the $$ being released by the Fed in anticipation of people possibly draining their bank accts for y2k fears- he thinks that action is negating the effect of the rate increases, and that the rate increase effects won't actually be felt first until Feb.
