[RE: Samsung I believe...Bonded quite a large sum of money]

Kemble, I talked with Dell late this afternoon about the shipment of my organization's notebooks. I was told that the remainder of the order would be delayed until at least 20 Dec 99. Apparently there is a shortage of SODIMMs now (notebook memory). The systems were ordered with 128 MB of RAM. I don't know whether to believe this or not, but this was the official response I received.

These systems have been on order since the last week in September. We received half the order this week (about 50 machines). Maybe they are trying to put customers off as long as they can until memory prices come down some. I noticed today that current prices have gone up a little higher than what we contracted for.

Kemble, from another Dell thread:

Speaking of Dell, the company itself could be poised for a solid 2000 after a so-so 1999. Some of that optimism is being fueled by what Dell, the CEO, revealed last week.

"I think 2000 is going to be a very good year," Dell said.

What's more, he indicated that the company has put most of its component supply problems with Intel behind it.

and another post:

This week's Barron's:

The Intel situation was pretty bad in the third quarter, [but] it is getting a lot better," Dell told the crowd. One of the benefits of these power summits is that with everybody milling about at the same hotel, it allows some portfolio managers to get private meetings with the CEOs.

After sitting down for a one-on-one with Dell, Janus' Scott Schoelzel said: "I'm very comfortable with Dell. He genuinely confirmed that Intel's yields are getting better by the day," said Schoelzel, whose $28.8 billion Janus Twenty Fund holds about 20 million shares of the Austin, Texas, computer maker.

Cheers

Kemble,
Hi. I was just watching CNN and one of the new DELL adds ran. It featured a family with two young boys, desktop had video camera. They made their own Christmas card/video...Great! Lots of appeal! I think they have a winner there.
Buy DELL Monday!
Steve

kemble -
re: Bonded quite a large sum of money so the building could start immediately...And, I believe DELL is getting the LCD's on priority due to this..

The Samsung press at the time said that this would begin to yield LCDs in 2001... there was no talk from them about any fix for near-term availability. I think this was a strategic move to develop a long term fix to the LCD problems, not a tactical fix.

Clearly DELL's investment may give them better leverage on allocated parts but that was not the intent of the deal.
