Re the Iomega Clik.

Just a few 'IMHOs' that havent been mentioned. But apologies if they have.

Its too late. Had it been here early enough, lets say before CF, then it could have gained a foothold and been difficult or impossible to remove. But CF is in that position. Doesnt even matter if its not better. VHS vs Beta.

The price performance of solid state will improve much faster than anything with moving parts. So CF will overtake Clik anyway.

Its made by one manufacturer. Too risky for a major camera vendor to put all their eggs in that basket.

MP3. I think this is interesting. I could see a few MP3 machines coming out with Clik, until the CF price drops.
With MP3, I dont think battery life matters, because you only have about an hours play time anyway. Presumably spinning a Clik for 1 hour would be within the capacity of a reasonable battery. And it must be attractive to imagine a library of Clik disks you can take with you, something that would be expensive today with CF. But not in a couple of years time.

Limtex and Thread,

I think Sony had a camera with rotating storage media and still sells it. I don't think that it inhibited CF's growth very much.

I cannot wait for all the Mavica users to take off their training wheels and spend some coin on a nice digital camera with CF or SM. Sony sold millions of Mavica's and many had sub-megapixel resolution. Those satisfied customers are going to be repeat purchasers and they will be shocked by the array of camera types available to them, especially those that are about 1/4 the size of a Mavica.

Limtex, Aus, Thread,

Just wanted to say thanks for the many intelligent responses you have given to my question about the competitiveness of the Clik solution. Actually, I think the response about the lack of a second source supplier for the Clik may be one of the biggest inhibiting factors.

I'm sorry I missed the ride earlier in SNDK. I expect flash to do very well but I am very concerned about the commoditization issue. There will be a huge market for flash but I fear that the Korea and Taiwan may do to it what they did to DRAM. Is there any segment of the memory market that has escaped this issue? Anyone keeping track of supply side issues?
