I'm still up in the air on whether or not the economy is slowing enough to keep the bond market happy, but I think the U.S. car sales anyway suggest that the economy is slowing. Light truck sales have slowed dramatically. The "echo-boomer" offerings, like the Ford Focus and the new Toyotas are doing well, but the auto companies' health is largely determined by how the big gas guzzlers do. Incidentally, I am frankly stunned by how well the Focus is selling. The first time I saw one of those annoying "live" commercials I thought it was a parody of some kind...Guess I'm not the target market.
