Hitachi is now sampling Direct Rambus chips, but we are waiting to see market demand before deciding to go into production..During the transition period next year, NEC said it will cut by half its planned output of Direct RDRAM, to about one million chips a month.

I know, I know but, I can't sweat all the little details. We're being too myopic. IMO the evidence is at this time rambus will be a substancial success in 2000. The major OEM's have the boxes on the shelves and the demand for rambus is great and the production ramp of all chips and chipsets and what not is happening as fast as possible.

There's nothing on the horizon that can fill the speed requirement except rambus. The industry infrastructure is in place and cranking. Intel still see rambus as the best solution... Like I said, I think the evidence to date is rambus will be a substantial success.

Noone commented on who could be this customer ? Someone who planned to buy such a quantity of RDRAM can probably be identified...
No suggestions ?

"A major customer this fall severely cut back its original Direct Rambus order," Shimakura said.
