If I am not mistaken Sachithandan is a distinguished Malayalam Poet and not a politician. Any discussion of politics, 'globalisation' and/or English in the article, I think, is meant to highlight the probable cause of the decline and/or popularity of 'Vernacular Literature' (regional languages- Bengali,Hindi,Tamil,Malayalam and the like) among the younger generations of his countrymen and I don't think he is against anybody learning English or any other language, if you noticed he himself wrote the article in English purposely to get to the target of his criticism.
