Sumitomo 3M Releases 2 DRAM-Testing Sockets

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Sumitomo 3M Ltd. has rolled out two types of sockets used to test the operations of Direct Rambus and other next-generation DRAMs at more than 650MHz.

One type is a socket to test quad flat packages at up to 6GHz. It carries a suggested price of 500,000 yen.

The other is for testing ball grid array chips at up to 10GHz. Its suggested price is 900,000 yen.

The company expects to sell a combined 150 million yen worth of the sockets in the first year.
