Michael, why do we have to wait a FULL YEAR to hear what you have to say on this topic? Why not give us a little preview, a trailer?

Interestingly, in some newspaper or other recently, I read (or rather, glanced through)an article on a poll about the "level of acceptable casualties." In recent conflicts (Iraq, Yugoslavia) the US has operated on the assumption that military casualties had to be strictly limited, because that is what the public demanded. Well, to the poll-taker's surprise, it turned out that the public is willing to tolerate much higher casualties than expected -- the general attitude was: if it's worth fighting for, it's worth dying for. (And I would add: if it's not worth fighting for, don't fight at all!)
