Rumors, Truth & Innuendo -- ShadowRam

Dec. 03, 1999 (Computer Reseller News - CMP via COMTEX) -- Christmas
is bearing down on us, full bore. Luckily, there are always techies
anxious to take advantage of, er, I mean enhance the holiday. With help
from FaceTime Communications and CallTech Communications, Santa is now
able to speak to children everywhere via instant messaging. And there
are no messy privacy concerns since parents will get an E-mailed
transcript of their kids' instant messaging session.

Wish I could get a transcript of the sessions at last week's state
attorneys general meeting in Scottsdale. Top topics? My bet is golf and
Microsoft in that order. With federal Judge Richard Posner mediating
talks between the government and Microsoft, the AGs are trying to agree
on whether to recommend a breakup of the software giant or propose
stringent licensing and product development conditions that would keep
Microsoft from extending its monopoly into emerging markets. Not all
state AGs are in agreement that Microsoft should be broken up, said a
source in one AG office. Gosh, once again, Microsoft might be blessed
in its choice of enemies. No matter what folks say, the company has
profited as much by miscues by its competitors as it has from its own
innate savvy.

Holiday madness continues with reports that Amazon.com and Etoys
execs-well, at least VPs on down-are taking warehouse shifts to keep up
with demand. Sure, sure. I remember all those tales about Amazon.com
founder Jeff Bezos slaving away with his minions a few years back. Only
trouble is, he rarely did, insiders said.

Compaq's inability to process and deliver orders through its
PartnerDirect program continues. Last week, Compaq sent a memo to VARs
that buy product through PartnerDirect promising better service and
quicker turnaround times. However, VARs shouldn't expect to see
products other than the ProSignia line available through PartnerDirect
anytime soon.

"We feel that it is important to have the current program running
smoothly with the ProSignia line," the memo said in part. "Compaq plans
to expand our PartnerDirect commercial product offerings to be similar
to those products offered through Compaq DirectPlus. These additional
products will be available as soon as the infrastructure is in place
and able to handle both initial and long-term demand."

One of my correspondents was on a plane a few weeks ago and happened
to be sitting next to a DuPont IT manager in charge of the company's
E-commerce initiatives. Our reporter happened to ask how important
E-commerce was. The DuPont executive's reply: "More important than
electricity." That must mean that E-commerce is really, really big
because I would have expected him to say, "More important than Teflon."

Those who say the East Coast plays second fiddle to Silicon Valley
had better think again. That fiddle is getting awfully big. Cisco plans
to launch an East Coast facility on 150 acres near Boston. In this
Cisco is mimicking Sun, which has a huge facility in Burlington, Mass.

Who else is on the move? Let me know at (800) 521-DIME or send E-mail
to shadowram@cmp.com.

CAP!

Well, If I do recall COMS was in the same boat for a while there ;) CPQ will rock in 1H 2000. Just a guess. It's just about that time. Signs point to "buy".

Again...sounds like AAPL 2 years ago...now look at AAPL.

I love it when a stock like this has perma-bears. It increases my resolve that it's going to make me alot of money. And unlike AAPL, where I wimped out of averaging down after my initial purchase (bought at 21, should've averaged at 12), I averaged down at 18 here....

I'm loving this current run, interest is high, and I checked in at a few local outlets. CPQs are moving nicely. That sounds good to me. In addition, I've been reading more about their plans to engage more on the high end computing side. That's just more $$ in the bank.
