Personally, I think the PIII bug trouble is minimal. But think of it from Dell's perspective.

Do they really want to recall thousands of defective machines in the event the problem is much more serious?

In your case, why buy a PC before Y2K anyway? All of the box-maker's Y2K guarantees do not really protect the consumer. They are designed to protect the box-maker from major liabilities in the event that major corporations end up getting their data trashed and irretrievable.

I'd wait.
