Hi, Joe. Thanks for posting that information.
Anniversaries of shocking events are always depressing, and if the kids can realize it is something they can't control, then it will be easier for them to deal with. I hope they talk about it a lot. Childrens' responses can be delayed for several years, as you know.

Hi Everybody---feels like I've been away for months rather than hours....SI was waaaaaaaaaay SLOW last night, so finally gave up....Sounds like the phone call was "much fun"! CELEB Carolyn, Congrats! How exciting to see you quoted there! Glad we have this OT board to have fun on....

Since I couldn't get onto SI last night, I called two of the radio stations last night. I asked the interns I spoke with if they would do some research on the protest groups who participated openly in the damage. I mentioned GNET's Metacrawler, asked they give whatever info they found to the on-air reporters (there is plenty there..I tried it!!!) . I asked for the media to start asking who the thug-groups were, if they worked for a living, and if not who paid for them to come to our city to try to destroy.....Both young people I talked to thought my ideas were valid, and they would do some searching to see what they could find. See what happens when I can't get on SI....

Went downtown Seattle today to shop....TOTALLY packed, and was great. Looks like people had worked so hard to get things back together somewhat again...still lots of windows boarded up, but I think everyone down there that we saw was ever so happy to just 'take our city back'....Every age was there, and people were just genuinely in a grateful and good mood, and relieved that it was over with no one terribly injured. Hopefully the merchants can make up some of the big losses from last week. There will be lots of inquiry as to why things weren't better thought through ....danger and riot wise....but then again, bet the President, Mayor, Gov, Co Exec etc etc won't be so woefully unprepared next time. Maybe it was a wake up call for the entire country, as it could have happened anywhere.

But, today, there was free parking, cookies from Nordstrom, free coffee, jingle bells for all, bands and music groups, free carousel rides for the little ones, and over a good feeling that the 'bad guys didn't win' after all.

And yes Joe, you said it all re: Columbine.... they seem to be all very brave kids. Guess that is why I mentioned all the above...While there were bands of some youth involved in the destruction this last week, there were/are MANY more who not only weren't out in the mess, but that were downtown volunteering to clean up today.

More than anything, we are realizing we are 'just a small world after all'....

Best, KLP
