Avner Mandelman, founder of a hedge fund dubbed Giraffe Capital,
offers up NEOMAGIC CORP and INFINIUM SOFTWARE INC (7-1/4, up 1-3/4
@ 10:02 am ET) as two examples of downtrodden technology stocks
that still hold promise, writes Barron's magazine columnist Alan
Abelson. Abelson writes that Mandelman thinks NeoMagic, which
makes multimedia accelerators for notebook PCs, has untangled
production snarls and now has a brighter profit outlook. Infinium,
which makes software for financial management and materials
management, had suffered from poor management decisions but should
be back in the black in the new fiscal year, according to
Abelson's account of Mandelman's outlook.
