<<I wonder how many old growth black walnuts are left in Illinois?>>

Some in the river bottoms and conservation areas. I was a 1/2 owner in some bottom ground that had 200 acres of dry ground. It had been timbered many times. No walnuts left, mainly softwoods. Previous owner got $4,000 on the last cutting from pallet makers wanting softwoods.

The 25 acres next to our club had never been cut and was an open timber full of walnut trees. The owner wanted to put in a 2 acre pothole for hunting ducks and sold the timber on that 2 acres for $10,000 per acre.
