The telephone never replaced person-to-person contact. Person-to-person contact is much richer and more fulfilling.

Nevertheless, the telephone has been a big hit, most timely business communication is done by telephone, and I don't think queing up in person to deal with a holiday temp at Macy's is a positive social experience.

Finding parking during the holiday crush is always fun, though.
