Trident Extends Toshiba Notebook Wins With New 3D 4MB Embedded Graphics

Trident Earns 2nd Generation Design Win With
World's Largest Notebook Manufacturer

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Trident Microsystems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: TRID) (http://www.tridentmicro.com) today announced that Toshiba
(http://www.toshiba.com) has designed in its CyberBlade(TM) e4-128 4MB SDRAM
embedded 3D graphics controller in the Portege 7140CT ultra-portable notebook
PC. The CyberBlade e4-128 represents the second generation of Trident
embedded memory 3D / AGP 2x graphics products that Toshiba has chosen to use
in their notebook PCs. Earlier this year, Toshiba announced models of the
Satellite, Portege and Libretto notebook PC lines that feature Trident's
Cyber9525DVD.
"Trident continues to offer high performance, low power, embedded memory
solutions for notebook PCs," said Jeffrey Friederichs, vice president and
general manager, marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc.(TAIS),
Computer Systems Group(CSG). "The CyberBlade e4-128 is an ideal solution for
the Portege 7140CT, delivering superior 3D performance, a low power
consumption specification and a design package ideal for ultra-portable
systems where PCB board space is at a premium."
"We are delighted that Toshiba continues to design in our best-of-class
3D embedded memory graphics products," said Frank Lin, President and CEO of
Trident, "This is a further validation that our embedded memory and 3D
graphics technologies provide unparalleled performance to major notebook PC
manufacturers like Toshiba."
The CyberBlade e4-128 embedded memory product shares an identical graphics
and video core with the CyberBlade i7 3D graphics/core logic integrated
product. Together they provide a full range of price/performance solutions
resulting in significant savings in software investment while reducing
time-to-market for the OEMs. Trident now supplies both embedded memory and
integrated graphics/core logic solutions to top notebook PC manufacturers
worldwide.
CyberBlade e4-128 combines high quality 3D, DVD, AGP 2x, 128-bit wide
4MB SDRAM, and Multi-View (different display contents on the LCD and CRT) in a
single BGA (27mm x 27mm) or LBGA (19mm x 19mm) package. This high level of
integration enables notebook PC manufacturers to offer enthusiast level
capabilities and performance while minimizing board space and power
requirements. The 128-bit wide memory bus allows for better performance than
discrete graphics implementations.

Trident Microsystems, Inc., with headquarters in Santa Clara, California,
designs, develops and markets digital media for the masses in the form of
graphics controllers and multimedia integrated circuits for PCs. Trident's
products are sold through a network of OEMs, original design manufacturers and
system integrators worldwide. For further information about Trident and its
